My husband Byron and I were in Rockville Town Square, eating a late breakfast at First Watch, on Gibbs Street, in Rockville and decided afterwards to go see what the new market in Rockville was all about.

Well, we were absolutely thrilled to discover Dawson’s Market!  Turns out, Dawson’s opened just two weeks ago, on September 29th.

This market is fantastic.  It immediately felt like home to me.  I especially loved the human-scale size and the entire “feel” of the place.

Dawson’s fundamental mission of LOCAL  is especially appealing.   Anyone who knows me knows that this has become my new mission in life.  I am far from alone in my new obsession.  The fact is  that there are growing numbers of us who are learning that “going local” has countless benefits, the least of which is the return of a genuine sense of place that been missing for far  too long.

Check out Dawson’s Market definition of local: http://www.dawsonsmarket.com/in-the-store/produce/ . I hope you will decide, as I have, to check out other links within their webpage in order to fully understand this market and its philosophy.

Dawson’s is also seeking locally produced products to sell in their market: http://www.dawsonsmarket.com/get-local/sell-to-us/

Because I attend many local green and sustainability events, I know that there is a very exciting increase in locally produced products.  So, I will be sharing the news of Dawson’s Market with these new local entrepreneurs.   Then, hopefully I will start to see their products showing up on the shelves of Dawson’s Market in the months and years ahead.

You too will be excited about this new addition to a very vigorous sector of the local economy.  Between all the Famers Market, markets like MOMs and Whole Foods, we here in Montgomery County have more options for obtaining healthy food than ever before.

Another wonderful offering at Dawson’s is their wonderful wine and beer department.  Here in Maryland, unlike in California where I am from, finding a food market that also stocks wine and beer is fairly rare.  I am looking forward to now able to do my grocery shopping and pick up wine and beer all in the same place; meaning one less stop to make… which is another small way I’ll be reducing my own carbon footprint.

Hope to see you in the aisles of Dawson’s Market someday!
